Today is Super Thursday.
Where publishers will launch an estimated 1,900 books… in a day! With so many options, it's easy to feel paralysed by choice.
Where do you start? The one that inspires you, the one that challenges you, the one that gives you an unexpected ‘Aha!’ moment or just stick with the trusted author?
And what about the pile of books you bought but haven’t read…? Let’s not go there.
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
My Top Picks for Super Thursday are… Staying right in my head.
Rule #1: never recommend a book you haven’t read. But I can share some ideas about reading and writing.
Strictly Shelves
A big shout-out to Victoria Wilson-Crane, who leads the weekly Strictly Shelves update in TEAM17 [https://michaelheppell.mykajabi.com/team17-Open]. It’s brilliant!
Every week, she encourages readers to share their literary journeys, from what they’re currently immersed in, to their reading goals and targets. What I love is seeing the diversity of how the TEAM17 [https://michaelheppell.mykajabi.com/team17-Open] members approach reading. Some can speed through a book in a day, others take weeks, savouring each page. All is good. Reading isn’t a race.
Unless…
The Pressure of Book Clubs
Hands up if you’ve ever been part of a book club and found yourself cramming just hours, maybe even minutes before the meeting to finish the bloody book! Or perhaps you’ve perfected the art of skimming and then reading a few reviews to appear like you’ve read the book? Don’t worry, you’re not alone 😉.
What’s Your Reading Legacy?
I don’t think it’s about how many books you read or how fast you read them. It’s about what stays with you.
Which books have shaped the way you see the world, your values or your aspirations? Or what was just a damn good yarn?
As always, I'd love to know your thoughts. Please share them below.
And by the way, in case you didn’t know, I wrote a book on how to write, publish and sell your book. There are only 8 copies left of the original hardback edition of Write That Book! You can grab one here. Or if you prefer the paperback or digital version, you can go straight here.
Be Brilliant
